Introducing YOU CAN DO IT, a series of interviews with Vietnamese-American professionals dedicated to inspiring young Vietnamese-Americans to pursue their dreams.

Growing up in Cleveland, I have always felt hopeless about my future because I never grew up around any Vietnamese-American professionals. Even though I was expected to succeed as an Asian American, the model minority myth never came true in my community. It seemed to me that all of my peers had someone just like them to look up to (i.e., a parent, a family friend, or a mentor). But for me, it was hard to just imagine a Vietnamese-American professional. Every adult I knew worked in a nail salon as their gateway to survival. In addition, the only success stories I could find were of a few celebrities.

This is why I have started YOU CAN DO IT! to help my fellow Vietnamese Americans, especially in the Midwest, to realize that their dreams are possible. I hope that these interviews inspire you as much as they have inspired me. I want my readers to know that someone just like you can achieve the “impossible”.
