“After spending more time within my community, I began to ponder the intricacies of old versus new in the Vietnamese-American identity. I started playing with ideas of age, immigration, tradition, and growth. My portfolio, while it showcases a variety of shoots, all comes down to this cohesive theme. From using traditional Vietnamese dresses as stand-ins for myself to capturing these themes in moments at events, these pieces have become complex projections of my experiences and identity.” -Julia Duong
